Top of Cap/Cowl

Button up, pick and knit along the top edge. (You could baste top rib edges together first so it will be easier to pick the stitches. Leave the bottom rib edge open) Place marker to maker the beginning of round.

Rnd 1: k.
Rnd 2: p.
rep rnd 1&rnd 2 until piece measures from bottom of cap/cowl approx.: 8 (9, 10.5) inches. Length could be adjusted depending on how slouchy or not you may like your cap. Make sure to end with rnd 2 last worked.

next rnd: p.
rep rnd 1&rnd 2 until piece measures from bottom of cap/cowl approx.: 8.5 (9.5, 11) inches.
Bind off loosely.

I-cord tie:
With 2 US 7 double point knitting needle, cast on 3 sts. Knit the 3 sts normally, from left needle to the right. *Don’t turn the work. Slide the stitches to the other end of needle. Place the needle on your left hand. The working yarn is coming from the far left stitch. Pulling the yarn so that it is snug, knit the 3 stitches from the left to the right needle as normal. Rep from *until the piece measures approx. 30 (34, 38) inches long. Break yarn and leave a tail. Weave tail through remaining sts and pull tight.

(optional) With 1 ⅜ pom-pom maker, make 2 pom-poms.

Finishing

Weave the i-cord tie through the tie holes all around. Attach the pom-pom to both end of i-cord tie.
Weave in all ends. Gently blocking.
Due to safety concern, you could choose not to attach the pom-pom so that you could remove the i-cord tie while using as cowl.

Please be aware that the i-cord tie could be potential hazards for children.
