Amount Required Approx. (fringe & tassel not included): size 1/2: 478 yds (4 balls); size 3/4: 562 yds (5 balls); size 5/6: 660 yds (6 balls); size 7/8: 750 yds (6 balls); size 9/10: 838 yds (7 balls); size XS: 956 yds (8 balls); size S: 1093 yds (9 balls); size M: 1194 yds (10 balls); size L: 1324 yds (11 balls); size XL: 1482 yds (12 balls); size 2XL: 1643 yds (13 balls); size 3XL: 1766 yds (14 balls); size 4XL: 1945 yds (16 balls).

Finish Size:

Chest Circumference: size 1/2: 22½ inches; size 3/4: 24½ inches; size 5/6: 28 inches; size 7/8: 29 inches; size 9/10: 31 inches; size XS: 34 inches; size S: 36 inches; size M: 39 inches; size L: 42 inches; size XL: 45 inches; size 2XL: 50 inches; size 3XL: 52 inches; size 4XL: 54½ inches.

Gauge: (in 4″ x 4″/10cm x 10cm)

20 sts x 32 rows in stockinette st. (US 7 knitting needle)
Cable Panel 24 sts x 16 rows = 3 in x 2¼ in (US 7 knitting needle).

Abbreviations:
C4B (4 stitches cable back)
Slip next 2 sts onto stitch holder and hold at back of work, knit next 2 sts from knitting needle, then knit 2 sts from stitch holder
C4F (4 stitches cable front)
Slip 2 sts onto stitch holder and hold at front of work, knit next 2 sts from knitting needle, then knit 2 sts from stitch holder
T3B (Twist 3 back)
Slip next st onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 sts from left hand needle, then purl st from cable needle
T3F (Twist 3 Front)
Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, purl next st from left hand needle, then knit 2 sts from cable needle.
T4B (Twist 4 Back)
Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 sts from left hand needle, then purl 2 sts from cable needle.
T4F (Twist 4 Front)
Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, purl next 2 sts from left hand needle, then knit 2 sts from cable needle.

m1l = make 1 knit st left

Pattern Notes:

  • Difficulty Level: Intermediate
  • Sizing in pattern will be listed as 1/2 (3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10) {XS, S, M, L} XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL. When only one number is given, it applied to all sizes. You may circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.
  • Fits head circumference: 20 (22, 24, 26, 28) {30, 32, 34, 38} 42, 46, 50, 54 inches with 1-4 inches positive ease. Pictured size 1/2 on a 2 year old with 4 inches positive ease.
  • You will need to knit 3 pieces (front, back, hood) and then assemble together to get the look of the Beveley Vest. The fringes & tassels are then added. The closures are optional, but I also attached how I made my own frog closures.
